One of the most important areas that you can support at home is reading. By reading stories to children and reading with them, you can help them develop the necessary skills to read but also a love of books and a wider vocabulary.

In EYFS and KS1 we ask you to support this at home through rehearsing skills using carefully matched reading books. Parents are asked to rehearse each book 3 times to develop fluency and this is recorded in a simple home reading diary.

Once children have mastered the skill of phonics and can read independently they are assessed using Accelerated Reader (AR) assessments and parents are asked to support their child in finding time to read and discuss the books. Further information on AR can be found on the curriculum page.
